About local holidays
Belgium has ten legal public holidays. The National Day (July 21) commemorates Leopold I's 1831 constitutional oath. The three Communities each add their own day: French (Sept 27, 1830 Battle of Brussels), Flemish (July 11, 1302 Battle of the Golden Spurs), German-speaking (Nov 15). Easter, Ascension, Pentecost, May 1, All Saints', Armistice (Nov 11) and Christmas round it out. When a holiday falls on a weekend it is NOT moved — unlike in the UK.
