About · Tether
Tether (USDT) is the largest stablecoin in crypto. Launched in 2014, it aims to maintain a 1:1 peg with the US dollar. Each USDT is supposed to be backed by a dollar or equivalent (Treasury bills, cash, other assets) held in reserve by Tether Limited. USDT exists across many chains (Ethereum, Tron, Solana, etc.) and serves as the quote currency for the majority of trading pairs on exchanges. It's also widely used for low-cost international transfers, especially in countries with capital controls. The transparency of Tether's reserves has been a recurring debate, but the company now publishes quarterly attestations and USDT remains by far the most liquid stablecoin.
