Romania observes around fifteen legal public holidays. December 1 marks the 1918 Union — Transylvania joining the kingdom. Orthodox Easter (two days off) is the country's central feast. St Andrew's Day (Nov 30, Romania's patron) and the Assumption (Aug 15, Saint Mary) are also off. A recent reform added Epiphany and St John (Jan 6-7), a third Easter day (Whit Monday in June) and Good Friday to align with European practice.
